National Institute of Technology for the sunrise state of Andhra Pradesh was established as 31st NIT in a small business Town of Tadepalligudem in West Godavari District in the 2015-16 academic year. Presently the institute is temporarily inhabited in a local Engineering college at “Sri Vasavi Engineering College”, Pedatadepalli. B.Tech programmes in branches of Engineering, viz., Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Metallurgical and Materials, Chemical, Computer Science and Biotechnology Engineering were started with an annual intake of 480 students. Presently 1219 students in the campus. NIT AP was mentored by NIT Warangal and thus about 25 faculty from NIT Warangal are visiting regularly NIT AP to supplement and strengthen the teaching process apart from 58 young Adhoc faculty. Most of the faculty are doctorates and then NIT AP is providing good ambience for teaching-learning process. NITAP is proud to have the distinction of the maximum percentage of girl students among all the NITs in the country.
A new campus in 172.6 acres of land adjacent to Chennai-Calcutta Highway is coming up in the air-strip lands of Tadepalligudem. CPWD has taken up the construction activity for all the buildings using latest construction technology. The institute goal is to provide aesthetically pleasing, environment-friendly campus facilities that enhance the learning, teaching and working atmosphere for the stake holders of the Institute as well as an inviting and pleasant experience for the visitors.
Recruitment process for both teaching and non-teaching posts will take place shortly and about 67- Teaching posts and the 74- Non-Teaching posts are likely to be filled in. MHRD has given approval for sanction of HEFA grants of Rs.400.00cr for infra structure and other facilities development at NIT AP.
NIT AP adopts a new mission and vision policy so as to become a leader in providing best technical education among the Institutions established recently. NIT AP will also take leap in R&D activities in all the core and applied areas of engineering with emphasis on innovation and incubation of technologies. A research park with hybrid solar plant is planned to generate the power required for the institute and extra power will be transmitted to National grid. MOUs with several new industries and institutions which are coming up in the new state of Andhra Pradesh, are being planned and will be executed from the 2019-20 academic year onwards.
I am sure that our students will carry the flag ship of NIT AP to greater heights applying their knowledge and leadership in various industrial and R&D domains and will stand as responsible and dedicated technocrats in the Nation Building.
